How to set up password: For software version 4.0 installed series 2 DVR units, parental control feature require user to enter a password before watching the content with certain ratings. For other software versions take following measures.
Software versions 3.0-3.2: From TiVo Central you are required to select Messages and Setup and then Preferences and later Parental Controls.
Software version 4.0 and later: With slight modification, from TiVo Central you are required to select Messages and Setup and then Settings, rest of steps are same as software version 3.0-3.2.
Software version 5.0 and later: From TiVo Central select Messages and Setup, then Settings and lastly Parental Controls.
Once you have set the four digit password, the box will ask you to re-enter the password to confirm whether you have typed it correctly or not. Once the password setting is established user is prompted for the four digit password to watch the blocked channels.

TiVo Auto relock feature:After watching a Parental Control channel, there is no need to be vigilant enough to lock the blocked channel. TiVo box is intelligently designed to help forgetful parents by automatically reinstalling Parental Control to an unattended remote for 4 hours. User can also turn off the auto relock feature.

TiVo Changing password:You can always change your password if you suspect that it is no longer a secret.

Conclusion:Certain programs are unrated, TiVo rate them automatically, for an unrated movie, TiVo gives the movie the highest rating (AO) and for an unrated show, it gives them lowest rating (TV-Y). This is another move by TiVo to restrict viewing of inappropriate programs.
