Two types of universal remote controls for all the Direct TV receivers are available as:

• Direct TV’s Blue Remote Control
• Direct TV’s Universal Remote Control

Blue remote control

Blue remote control is a universal control for your Direct TV system operating with Direct TV receiver, a Television Set, VCR and any other supporting device.

Remote Control Features

• By default blue remote control is programmed for Direct TV receivers made by HNS but you can also program it for brands as well by entering codes.
• By default it supports RCA TVs, RCA VCR and Pioneer audio receivers but other can also be operated.
• Direct TV’s interactive technology allows you to put all your other remote control functions into one Blue Remote Control.
• You can turn on or off all your Direct TV system with one master key and the individual components as well.
• You can restrict the remote to be used with your system or your defined Direct TV systems only by ID lock features.
   
• In order to operate your blue remote control with systems other than default you need put code for those receivers and Blue Remote Control provides you the easy code search for all the available Direct TV systems.
• Easy selection of the device to be controlled by sat (receiver), aux (auxiliary device), TV and VCR buttons.
• The GUIDE button allows you to operate all the features available in the advanced program guide of your particular Direct TV receiver.
• Menu button for main menu and INFO button provides you all the information you need about any on-screen item.
• Keeps the settings intact even when the batteries are changed.

Universal Remote Control

Universal Remote Control is different from the Blue Remote Control in a sense that it supports four devices with one Direct TV receivers, TV, VCR, and Stereos but unlike Blue Remote it can control two TV sets, two VCRs or even two stereos.

SPECIAL FEATURES

All the features I described above include in Universal remote control as well but also some extra features like easy selection of components by four-position slide switch at the top. Record button® is also available on the remote to work with DVR and automatic recording, the LIST button displays the To DO list of programs where ever available and Active button allows you to interact with special features such as Direct TV news with all the other general remote buttons like volume up-down, page up-down, etc. For purchasing you can always refer to Direct TV Buying Guide.
