HDTV
TVs have now become an essential human life. You are a kid, you are young or an old man all has an equal amount of interest in TVs. Now a days a human life can not be considered complete without TVs. Starting from news to the entertainment everybody goes towards televisions .in this matter lots of problems use to come to have quality entertainment with good quality picture and sound but not any more as we have now DTVs (digital television systems).
Digital TV have three standards and HDTV (high definition television) is one of these three standards. Basically DTV means the transmission of digital signal, with reception and display of those signals on a digital TV set. These digital signals can be transmitted over air, cable or satellite systems. A decoder receives these signals at home in pure digital form and drives the digital TV set.
HDTV Features in comparison with analog TV
The biggest invention in television technology was color TV that we use now at homes as analogue TV with new enhancements. But we can say now the biggest breakthrough since color TV is HDTV because an HDTV picture has five times more information than analogue standard television contains. Origional width of the films can be experienced on HDTV. It has 720 to 1080 lines of resolution where as in USA 525 and in Europe they are 625, 25% wider screen, twice luminance definition compared to the analogue TVs and Dolby digital surround sound reveal the fact that how stunning quality of image can be seen on an HDTV. With the aspect ratio of 16:9 for an HDTV compared to the standard Analogue TV (4:3) the HDTV is far more appealing for any one because this ratio is approximately the same as for the wide screen image shown in movie theatres.
The analogue TV uses 6MHz bandwidth so for HDTV’s broadcasters have to utilize the same bandwidth. For this purpose compression software is used quite similar to those used in PCs the compression and encoding schemes used for DTVs is MPEG-2 which is also a standard for DVD videos. Compression reduces the image quality to the extent where human eye can ignore it and to the standard, which is far far, better than the normal analogue TV provides.
This also the MPEG -2 that allows an HDTV to interact with the multimedia that is one can play o movie on HDTV using CD-ROM or one can record an HDTV show on his or her hard disk.
Impact of HDTV
On the whole with wider images, five times better quality picture, Dolby digital surround sound and the exchange of data between multimedia and HDTV directly what better one can get for information or entertainment.
